HTC PAL: continuous beep after changing bungee cords

Hello all,
we just ordered new bungee cords and injection seals from the Autosampler Guys and I put in the cords and seals and lubricated the parts as instructed in the preventative maintenance manual.
When I re-attached the arm, all the HTC PAL does is give of a high-pitched, continuous beep! It ususally does so right after you turn it on (~3 s). Sometimes the start screen is displayed and the regular "two beeps" are given off. Then the sample queue screen is displayed but after about 5 s the HTC PAL just beeps and is unresponsive.
I am totally clueless as to what could be wrong because all I did was change the tensioning cords. I did not bump the arm or anything else.
Any and all advice is greatly appreciated!
