Agilent 1100 series run shutdown

Hi, I wonder if anyone could shed some light on a strange problem that arose yesterday.

Agilent 1100 series hplc, I go to start a run of samples and whilst im running a purge on the RID it suddenly shutsdown, all lights red. I check the logbook and all of the modules say shutdown, then error method started but that is all.

I have tried running it again since, with different methods, with a DAD instead of RID, just trying to let it pump and the same thing keeps reoccuring at seemingly random intervals

occasionally I get a FW repl 2032 for command PUMP1 or FW reply 2804 for command THRM 1.

I can only think it is a communication error between pc and hplc which has suddenly started occuring for no known reason, but would be grateful if anyone could shed any light on this problem.

Have you had a look at each module to rule out any obvious problems (such as a leak)?

yes, this is part of the problem, there are no leaks and nothing appears to be wrong with any individual module, they all seem ok (at least without taking them apart to check the insides)

I started the machine off this morning and it seemed to be running fine, then 4 hours later it had stopped again.

I tried restarting the run again and this time it stopped after 20 minutes.

This time I had a new message when I switched the modules back on 'Run buffer full' but the pc has plenty of memory free on it, and appears to be working fine.

as the hplc is connected to the pc via network I have tried changing the network cable, albeit without any real hope of success, and as i type the hplc stops again.

Hello,

Maybe you have a problem with your degazer... If degazer is connected to the pump with a remote cable, disconnect the remote cable. If the vacuum is not sufficient, a message is send via the remote cable and the HPLC shutdown.

An other possibility is you have a very small leak during the injection withdraw. In this case, your HPLC shutdown only after many vial injection.

Thanks, It appears it was the degasser causing the problem or at least with the degasser not on the hplc is able to complete runs.

Thanks for the tip! I also disconnected the remote cable and now my sequence is completed. Ofcourse the degasser needs to be fixed but for now I am happy to have been able to continue my analysis.
