I am looking to get an autosampler for our Thermo Trace 1300GC and Agilent 7890GC-MS. I would like to be able to move it across from one instrument to the other, if possible. Anyone got any views on the merits of the Thermo , Agilent, or other ( HTA?) offerings?

You can't use an Agilent sampler on the Trace 1300.
You might be able to use the Thermo Triplus/AS3000 on the Agilent , ask Thermo
The CTC Combipal available from both vendors and others can be swapped from GC to GC but costs almost as much as a basic sampler from both vendors.
The HTA fits to both GCs but has not proved as reliable for us having an out of box failure with one , strange injection issues with another and over sold promises.

EST Analytical offers a variety of systems that will fit on any GC. The least expensive for simple liquid injections is the Cobra Autosampler......

You could run a CTC autosampler with a gas sampling valve and use the valve to determine which instrument the sample is delivered to. That will save you from having to move the sampler around every time you change instruments/ methods.

We use a CTC Combipal. It works fine and we have no problems with it.

Since our products have been mentioned, we would like to clarify some key
points related to the comments provided by the “Guest” user about its
experience with some of our products.

In particular, they lack some important information and might therefore be misinterpreted. Considering that no other customer has reported these issues, it was easy for us to understand the event the user is recalling.

• “Out of box failure”. We confirm that this happened. However, we would
like to highlight that the unit was replaced in just three days with a
brand new one, without any cost for the customer. One of our main aims is certainly to manufacture zero-defects products. Nevertheless, we believe
that what marks the difference between a good and a bad company, is the
behavior of the company in case of problems. In this situation, we have
recognized our responsibility and we have solved the issue in the best and
fastest way possible.

• “Strange injection issues”. HTA has no responsibility for this. The
customer was using a syringe not suitable for its application, which was
not recommended by HTA. When we discovered the incompatibility, we
suggested the appropriate syringe, and the problem was solved quickly.

We would have appreciated it if the user had given a more complete review
of our products, describing the facts as they actually happened to the
forum community. As we always give the maximum effort and passion in our
work, we regret to have read this negative comment about our products,
especially because it was objectively undeserved.

As a proof of our ability to sort out the situation in a satisfactory
manner, we have had the small consolation that this customer has bought
additional GC autosamplers from us in the following years. If he was asked
today, he would most likely give a different feedback.

It's always good to hear both sides of these stories.
