We have a HP 5970 MSD. The fan on the back of the case is getting loud and vibrating. I am trying to find a replacement fan for this. This is not the fan on the turbo pump or diffusion pump. This is just a fan that is on the outside of the MSD on the back.

I am not sure where to find a replacement fan, but look at the fan and see if there is a foil sticker over the center on the side opposite the blades. Usually there is a sticker like that covering the end of the shaft that is held in by a C-clip. You can either put some oil there and replace the sticker, or remove the C-clip and actually clean and grease the shaft. It may buy you more life from the fan until you can find a replacement.

I am well versed in using a potato phone and imbedding images onto online forums. I should have figured that HP has had several revisions of this fan. I was waiting to pull the fan when I got confirmation it would not shut down the MSD by doing so. I will do this later today. Thanks for taking the time to respond.

I guess I was worried it would be hard to find them. But I see them several places on the net.

I contacted Sisweb and they have these in stock.

Under the sticker there in the photo is where you can lubricate those fans. They are made to just be changed out when they go bad, but for the length of time we normally use such pieces of equipment, lubricating them easily should have been a option.
