Hi all,

I am having a problem with my 5973 When i try to do an autotune i got the message "Tune action stopped:gain and offset=0 and peaks are too narrow". It just looks like noise. I recently change the filament and the channel electron multiplier (detector of MS). The vacuum seems good.Any suggestions?

Thanks
Hello

You can try to clean dynode with 2-propanol. If it won't help perhaps electron multiplier is worn out.

try another tune such as DFTTP or BFB tune. Agilent autotunes get corrupt if you continue to overwrite them.
Also I have this problem when I inject a sample. After 30 seconds the peaks disappear with a flat baseline
Hi,
Have you tried your other Filament, as the current filament may warp out of alignment when hot.
or as has happen to me, the filament was broken, and when cold would emit electrons
as there was contact and then when hot during the run, it lost contact, so that the only response that I was seeing was electronic noise, then it would cool down, make contact, generate an expected chromatogram, get hot, then flat baseline again, and repeat until the run had finished.

You didn't mention if the MS worked after you had changed the parts? and only recently stopped.
If it is the multiplier, then try put back the original parts, and see if that help troubleshoot the fault.

regards
Alex
