We have a HP 1050 HPLC system. The system has been working great. This morning, we were booting up and the autosampler will not start. It turns on, then keeps the word initializing on the screen. None of the keys on the keypad will do anything, and we cannot get chemstation to load because it keeps trying to reach out and find the autosampler. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Amy - I'd disconnect the communications cables from the 1050 autosampler, then turn it off and then back on, see if it goes to its ready state on its own. You also need to have your air supply to the rear connected and on, to initialize the pneumatics (can you hear the pneumatics operating, and see the circular tray go abck and forth?).

Unplugged all communication cables and it will not initialize on its own. It does not make the pneumatic sound at all. It powers on, and says initializing on the screen, but does not start doing all of the motion that it should on startup. Air is plugged in to autosampler. Board problem perhaps?

What is the supply of air? Cylinder, house air? And checked that it's air is delivering correct pressure, and didn't just assume.....

We have a dedicated air compressor to supply the instrument. Air pressure is coming in.

I had this issue and figured I would post what I did to fix it. after checking the compressed air line and setting the autosampler control board to test mode and it not doing anything i removed and reseated every single board in the back. after this it worked. My guess was it was a bad connection with the firmware board or a replaceable chip on a board that was causing it to hang before the initialization test. The screen and keypad wouldn't respond but when you booted it you could hold control to go into self test mode. so try reseating/inspecting all the component boards.

Turn off the instrument. Eject all plug-in cards at the back (2-3 cm is enough) and push them back. Now try to start the instrument again.

Amy, had you repaired it yet? pls share the experience.
I have other troulbe with my 1050 autosampler and 100 vials tray (18596 M). I don't remember that I had reset something on the autosampler so It can not control the 100 vials tray now.
Anyone know how to repair it, please guide me.

P/S: 1050 HPLC is very good instrument. I have 4 and they are still work well but only one have 100 vials tray.

I could not repair it. We ended up buying a replacement.

Hello, my auto-sampler has the Not Ready light on. It initializes normally, the circular tray go back and forth. But I did not connect an air supply on the rear. Is it necessary to connect the air? Is this the reason why the Not Ready light is on?

Yes, the air must be connected, the cylinder air or compressed air supply is what drives the movement of the tray and movement of the injector. We had ours plumbed to house compressed air at about 75 psi.
