Autosampler issues

I have an HP 7673A autosampler connected to a 5890 that is having some trouble. It cannot not pick the vial back up after the injection has been made. It seems that the arm doesn't line up properly with the vial. It is off by about a 1/4 inch. It tries to grab it but hits the neck. The arm resets and tries one more time then gives an error and stops the run. It doesn't have a problem placing the vial. I've tried to see if the vial holder is sticking or isn't homing properly but I feel like if that were the case, the syringe would jam. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Can you post a photo (like use photobucket) here? My first guess is that one of the rods is sticking because of dirt, and isn't spring back into place.

This one has usually stumped me. As CPG says, cleaning up the rods under the gripper arm might help; the plastic band inside the arm may be replaced as well.

I have not had any luck with these measures - I usually end up sending the tray to GenTech.
