Hi to all,

I know that probably the matter has been discussed already but I havent found my answer yet as most cases concern an GC-MS.

I have in the lab a 5890 Series II, equiped with an FID, an HP 6890 Series Injector Enhanced Parameters, G1512A Autosampler Controller, Agilent tray and runs on Chemstation A 07.01 in Win NT 4.0. The computer is now giving a lot of error messages and although it is still somehow working I want to replace it. My idea was to upgrade to win XP.

I can get a HP-IB card for PCI new and a new computer with XP but my question is abou the Rev. of Chemstation that would support my system and of course be able to run on XP.

Has anybody done that?

Kind regards
Andreas

I'm pretty sure the Chemstation LC&GC versions that work under XP support the 5890. OTOH the last version of Chemstation MSD that supported the 5890 was B which can run on NT or 2000 Pro SP4 which is what I use. I've heard intermittant reports of jerry-rigging MSD B version to run on XP but I don't know the details.

I believe the main other issue is the PC interface card. Many of the old ones are ISA and I don't think any of the IOlibs that run under XP will support the ISA GPIB board so you have to either buy a PCI card or the GPIB to USB adapter (the better choice).
Thank you both for your replies.

As I see I will probably upgrade to A 10.02 which I also recently used for a hybrid HPLC 1050/1100. I saw from the table of Tomasz that 10.02 supports 5890 Series II with 82350B GPIB and should work.

Concerning the GPIB card I will have to buy a new one because mine is ISA and I will seek a PCI. I have a supplier in Switzerland that supplied me a new card two months ago for the HPLC 1050/1100. A computer with XP and PCI is easy to source through our IT department.

Fingers crossed!

Cheers
Andreas

P.S. What were the parameteres again for the GPIB card to detect the componets of the GC? Are they like the HPLC?

It should work :)

Hi

I've installed and run 5890 series II with all versions of chemstation even B.04.03
if you solve connection problem, Chemstation will work fine.
