i just clean the source on my 5973 gc/ms and the autotune the morning after shows emvolts at 2600 and the air/water check has the N2 at 43.57% any suggestions on getting those parameters under 2400 emvolts and under 20%N2?
I would say that there is a leak somwhere in your system!

checked that and it seems the column is stuck in the GC/MSD interface, the column is not budging

well it took some effort but we got the column out...now the tune shows the emvolts higher at 2894 and N2 is 51% O2 16% Co2 2% H2O 12% N2/H2O 418%

You still have huge leak. Check GC:
-inlet (do leak test)
-check your carrier gas trap ! (it could be saturated)

You can make simple test to narrow problem down:
-plug transfer line with blank nut and bake out MSD for couple of hours. Than perform autotune.

Start by loading an older tune file before you run autotune, if you have saved any of the recent ones. Otherwise it may take a long time for the routine to converge on usable values.

Definitely try this, it will tell you if you have a leak in the GC or the MS. You could have lint or some other object on the O-Ring that seals the analyzer side plate or even a broken interface if you find that the leak is still there when you use a solid ferrule and nut on the interface.
