GC3900 with Galaxie issues.

Hello all,
I have a GC3900 (Varian) and try to set-up Galaxie to work with the GC (full instrument control).
With the setup I follow al the steps described in the manual (installation guide). Everything goes well until I try to 'configure the system'. There is a tool that automatically starts searching for any GC3900's when connected but it doesn't seem to find the GC I have connected. In the manual they say that if you know the I.P. adress of the GC you can also enter it manually, but when I enter the I.P. adress manually it doesn't seem to work. When I click: activate communication it doesn't automatically receive the information from the GC and there is still no way to control it in the software (when you click activate communication it should automatically receive info about the GC like the detector type, injetor type etc.).
Anyone have any ideas what can be wrong?
Thanks in advance.

Hello
If you fixed IP addresses in PC and GC try to ping LAN cards. If they can communicate you can have problem with PC settings (firewall, antivirus).

Hello,
If I remember well the 3900 has not fixed IP address. So, You can send an IP address through the Bootp server wich is built in the Galaxie. Tomasz has right the firewall could be problem also.

ML

Hello
I think you can fixed IP on GC ethernet card (see link below)

If your configuration is : PC-GC you don't need Bootp, you need Bootp if your configuration is : PC-network-GC.

Hello
If you have a direct connection between you computer and the GC, please try a cross type patch cable.
best regards
Chris

Hoi je zit bij om de hoek. Lelystad.

Hmm, I tried turning of the firewall, but it is already off. Also the connection doesn't seem to be the problem because I get a notification on the PC saying that an ethernet device has been connected (the name of device is GC 3900).
How should I setup the connection between the PC<-->GC without the BootP service?
I also noticed that when I reinstalled the Galaxie software (without setting anything up) when I switch on the GC it says: "Waiting for a network connection" on the GC display. But when I setup the GC in Galaxie it get's past that message and after a while the oven and all switches on as if it is communicating with the computer.
So the GC thinks it has a communication but the PC doesn't recognize this or something.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello
To avoid using bootp you need to fix IP for PC (eg. 10.10.10.1 with SubnetMask 255.255.255.0) and IP for GC (eg.10.10.10.2 with SM 255.255.255.0).
Then try to ping both cards to see if you have reply.

I have pinged the IP adress of the GC succesfully, but how do you mean ping both cards? I can only seem to ping the GC (What other IP adress should I ping?)
I also can't seem to find how to fix the IP of the PC (the GC IP adress is fixed).

Hello
If you pinged GC card and you've got reply it means you have connection between GC-PC.
If you can't bring GC online it means that there is some configuration problem. You need to make sure that in configuration editor (GC software) you have correct IP address and other settings for GC.

Thanks for the replies so far.
I have checked the configuration settings, and everywhere I look the IP address and other settings seem to be correct.
However I have configured the GC using the BootP configuration in the software (there doesn't seem to be any other way to connect it), the other options are using a Star 800 MIB interface (which we do not have).
I am sure that it is possible to connect the GC to the computer with this software (because it has been used before on the same PC).
