SIM versus pseudoSRM

Hi

I wonder what is the advantage of using a pseudoSRM (parent to parent transition) compared to a SIM. I was told that it is better. Is that so?

It depends a little bit on the reason for the PseudoSRM or SIMSIM or what other names they have for it. If you do it because the precursor ion is very stable and does not produce any fragment ions it can be better than SIM. What you can do is select the precursor ion in Q1. pressurize the collision cell and give it a collision energy so much that you just don't see any loss of your precursor ion in a Q3 Sim of that same ion. This might lead to a noise reduction because all the chemical noise is fragmented and you don't see it in the resulting chromatogram. Increasing your signal to noise.
