Hi,

we are about to have a software upgrade from Empower2 to Empower3, since Empower3 is only supported by Windows 7, there are issues regarding to the datas and methods transfer.

I know that it would sound silly... But is it possible to transfer the method sets from Empower2 to Empower3 during the upgrade?

Thanks so much!!!

Hi IUpuppy,

Well, where I work we've upgraded...and no Method Sets were transferred, everything was typed in from scratch. Guess that doesn't mean that it's impossible to transfer the Empower 2 MSs to Empower 3, but maybe at some level it was, say, "discouraged?"

Please, see what others think, and thank you.

Hi mattmullaney, thanks for your reply. Don't think it would be hard to reset all the method set from scratch though, just more works to do...

One more question. Is Empower3 very different from Empower2? Would it take a lot of time to get familiar with the all the handing?

Many thanks.
No, IUpuppy, you'll see a new "paint job", but as it is, everything is pretty much the same between Empower 3 and Empower 2 from the standpoint of most end users. One nice thing that was added was the USP s/n calculation, which was a bit overdue...it's been validated and "soft-wired" into Empower 3.

Again, please let us see what others have to say, and my thanks to you.

1) in an enterprise system, you CAN use XP nodes - you are not limited to Windows 7.

2) Archive your Empower 2 projects, then restore them in Empower 3.

2a) the only things that will not work are instrument methods that were written using older ICS if you update the ICS along with Empower (say you went from Serial control to Infinity ICS and ethernet for some Agilent systems). All you need to do is write fresh instrument methods and have your method sets point to them.

3) Empower 3 is not all that different - they've just added several features. Good ones include processing only sample sets and system metrics.
Thanks,
DR

Hi DR,

Many thanks to your suggestions, they are really helpful!!

I have backed up all the projects from Empower2 to a hard drive. Since we also have a retired HPLC system with Empower(1154), I was thinking of testing the restoring project from Empower2(2154) to Empower1(1154).

However, I found that projects generated from Empower2(2154) cannot be restored onto Empower(1154)..

Is it normal? Will it happen when it comes to Empower2 to 3?

Thanks for all the valuable informations!
Thats normal, you can't downgrade.
But restoring from Empower1 to empower3 will work.
Hi Hollow,

Thank you so much for your suggestion!! I just tried restoring projects from Empower1 to Empower3 and it worked.

Thanks so much for everyone's suggestion :)
