error message on GC

Hello, I have a Shimadzu GC 2010 and am having the following error message when I try to change the column temperature: car2 calc. ratio out of range. I did some searching and found that "the carrier gas total flow rate calculated from the split ratio program you have input is outside the set range." I am guessing there is a setting somewhere in the GC where the max split ratio is set too low--where could this be?
Also, I am having detector issues. The computer and GC are communicating (ie I can change temps on the GC from the computer), but the line stays flat on the computer screen--it does not spike up when I turn on the detector. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Laura

Hello,

Are you trying to change the column temperature in the Acquisition - Instrument Parameters screen? If so, check which registered column is currently in use for your method and see what the maximum column temperature was set for that particular column (this can be found on the left side of the part where you adjust the column temperature) and make sure you are not programming your column to exceed that temperature. Also, the GC will not allow split temperature or column temperature to be set higher than the FID temperature so you might want to check that as well.

I hope this helps.
