Hi, we use to teach student in the lab and now we have LC-MS
I feel is suitable for PhD not SMALL undergraduate so we dicided to make it simple by make it as LC-UV
is it possible to remove the MS and put UV-VIS , could you please clarify?
really appreciate any help please.

Physically there is no problem. Just disconnect the MS from the column outlet and connect your UV-VIS detector. Control software may be another question. Probably best addressed to the instrument vendor.

Thanks nice Tom. Mmmmmm you said the control sofware , I am sure there must be a procedure to follow like linking etc etc but hopefully i could find this.

Hello
If you have LC system with UV and MS and you're using software to control them both you can easily remove one and use system as standalone LC-UV or LC-MS.
It is all about software and drivers (if they are not from the same vendor).

... but don't underestimate all undergraduates. I've had some who understand LC-MS very quickly, and I have also had people with a Master's degree in analytical chemistry who I think will never be safe to operate an instrument, or set up a method, on their own.
If your system is an LC-MS-PDA, as many are, then ignoring the MS should be very easy. If yours is purely an LC-MS, how easily it will control a separate PDA or fixed wavelength detector depends on the manufacturers of each part, and the best thing is to contact the manufacturer to ask.

Thanks guys
lmh not only master students. I know professor who is well-known in HPLC and GC etc and published many books in UK. He does not know hoe to operate or do injection and use simple integration system. Only knows the theory. I think all about practise and pure mind ( like me

I wish i could see the atom

).
