Dear All,

I need your support!! I want to analyze methanol in aqueous solution with packed gas chomatography - FID.
I have installed the column and I tried to analyze. I obtained the peak of methanol but with different retention times for different standard solutions. In brief, the retention times migrate from one values to another one. I would like to ask you what you can advice in order to have the same retention times.

You better post your column and your conditions, and whether you are looking at 5% methanol or 0.05%.

Only an old-timer will have experience with this.
Dear colleague,

I would like to ask you some explanations. What did you mean when you said to post my column?
I have many retention times for several standard solutions ( 7, 15 and 23 ppm). Do you think that I need to prepare
5% and 0.05%? old - timer? I do not understand? Do you mean that I need to used a classic timer.

Please explain more on the issue.

Regards,

WICLEF

As old timers tend to get more and more pricey than you'd better go for more contemporary equipment ;-)

How much your retention times differ one from another.
Post a chromatogram here.

Like we used packed column Tenax-GC for this (30 years ago).

You need to have standards approximately the same concentration as that found in your injected solutions.

I fear "we" have a language issue here, and my history tells me that I'm not the most patient guy in these situations....

Are you injecting water directly into the column?
I have installed the column and I tried to analyze
What are the length and diameter of the column? What is the column packing? What is the column temperature? What is the carrier gas and flow rate?
I have installed the column and I tried to analyze
Are your standards also made up in water? Is the injection volume always the same?
