Hi, everyone.

I'm a new member of this forum and I'd like a suggestion from you gyus.

In our university's lab in Brazil we have received a donation of an old HP 6890 GC (serial connection, no headspace, etc) but it came without its software...

So, I'd like to ask you for suggestions of softwares we could use to control this GC, collect and analyse the data. We'll be working with both FID and TCD detectors it already has.

Of course, Agilent's ChemStation come firstly to mind, but it is extremely expensive for us...

Any other software you use or recommend?

Thanks in advance!
Check out Clarity software from Dataapex.

It works well with our 5890 GCs.
If you already some old chemstation you ask a quote for an upgrade, price should be lower. Maybe for university your agilent representative can do something for you.

6890 serial is a very old syste supported by many CDS. Clarity is one of them.
ChromPerfect can also do it. Maybe they also have a lite version. Check on their website.
last option could be some opensource cds. I've no experience on opensource solution and i wonder which support you could have with this solution.

Hope it help.

Thank you, skunked_once and Henri_sra, for your replies.

I asked both Clarity and Chromperfect for quotations and indeed Chromperfect has a lite version that is more interesting.

Does any of you work with Chromperfect? Is it easy to work with? I've never heard of them until you mentioned it here. In our lab we used to have only Agilent's Chemstation, but it became very expensive for us...

Thanks again!
If you have some chemstation, i recommend you to ask a proposal for an upgrade.
price should be lower than complete license and you will have the last openlab chemstation compatible with your data.

regarding chromperfect, we've sold this CDS many many years ago. I cannot tell you if it's a good CDS or not because i was not in charge of this product. but it can be a solution for you.

in both case, ask information to sales people (agilent & justice innovation).

You have also Chromeleon from Thermo (ex Dionex, ex Softron) but you ask for a University discount (otherwise it is a pricey as ChemStation and Empower).
Thank you all for your suggestions!

This thread was very helpful!

Best regards from Brazil.

dr.suppino,

All strictly opinion (you know what they say about getting what you pay for....)

I have used Chemstation a bunch but it has gotten very expensive in my opinion.

I have also used Clarity and EZChrom and like both of them very much. Clarity is much less expensive than Chemstation and EZ somewhat less than Chemstation.

I have dabbled in Unichrom and it looks like Clarity but I don't have enough experience to comment.

Finally I used ChromPerfect in the past and prefer supporting it the least.

Best regards,

AICMM
