What about the inlet ?
A biot mroe detail could be helpuful. describe the baseline instability. It could be from contamination of the inlet, column deteriation, incorrect gas flow... A distinctive pattern could point to the problem. The nature of the contamination and what you did to clean it up could be hints to the nature of the problem as well.

With a bit more informaiton, the possibilities drop from the thousands to something to discuss.
