I am having trouble with a waters 717 autosampler homing the carousel. I wiped down the engaging column with methanol and all the interior to no avail. Looked into the maintenance utilities and the only test that failed was the injector seal calibration (pressure low) which presumably has nothing to do with the homing of the carousel. Any suggestions?

Is the instrument not picking up the carousel, or is it picking it up, spinning it and then never finding home? If it picks up and spins, then the carriage drive is fine. It may be a problem with the carriage reader. You want to make sure that the carousel itself is clean, wipe down the top. Make sure that you do not have anything occluding the little holes in the top, and magic marker on it will also cause problems (keep it clean). You could also try another carousel to see if that helps.
