Working with a Varian 3800 GC with a Saturn 2000 Ion Trap for the first time (formerly used Agilent GC/MS). This is to be used for identifiying volatile (ignitable) liquids. Resolution check mix is available for QA.

Where to begin? With so many variables to manipulate and control...not sure what to do in what order. I have looked far and wide with little help in practical application. Theoretical texts are aplenty. Can anyone recommend any texts or articles, please?

If it were my problem, I would start by contacting vendors of colums and asking for applications notes. If you are lucky, you will not have to "reinvent the wheel".

HI, Try starting from "Edit Metod", fill entries in the table according to you previous procedure. First page than second, third fourth and so on. If you are facing problem with different labels and termes used in new GC, this is normal. Take aprinted copy of your old procedure and try to write the equivalent Varian terms. Take help on phone or from installation engineer of the supplier if available.

It will be easy once you go thru.
