Hello,

I am installing new capillary column (Omegawax 320) in a HP 5890 Series II GC with FID. I am wondering how far the column should be inserted on the FID side. The instructions say, "as far as it will go," but I was wondering how far that was. It appears to be about 2-3 inches. Does that seem correct, or am I pushing it in too far. Thanks

The distance is 68-70 mm from the end of the ferrule or 88-90 mm from the oven end of the column nut. Insert the column into the detector opening and push the column in as far as it will go, then screw in the column nut so that it is snug but not tight. Now, back the column out 1-2 mm and tighten the nut.
