Hi!

currently we are using following method in our lab (http://www.chem.agilent.com/Library/app ... 8-4884.pdf)

The method is based on retention times and a HP-5 MS column (30-m, 0.25-mm i.d., 0.250 um thickness) is obligatory to use.

At the moment we are optimizing the runtime of our analyses, and i was wondering whether it is possible to run this method on a HP-5 MS column (20-m, 0.18-mm i.d., 0.180 um thickness)?

and what are the changes we have to make to make this work?

best regards.
Looking at that application you would need an entirely new RTL library to make it work which was calculated using your column specs and temperature program. This screening method is relying more on retention time than just mass spectra for identification. If you have a standard with each of those compounds present then you could build your own method with retention times specific to your instrument, otherwise you would need to contact Agilent and see if they have a library using the specs of the setup you wish to move to.
The past is there to guide us into the future, not to dwell in.
