what does product launch date mean

Hi, I work in a generic pharmaceutical company. Could somebody tell me what product launch date means? Does the drug product launch date start after the filing approval? Or does it start after the 3 validation batches and ready for commercial?

When product marketing says Now we will start promotions.

Patentwise I would say that it is the first day when the product is available to the public (i.e. first day you can buy it in a pharmacy).
