I have been thrust into a position where I am setting up new pc's for our GC lab and I have new software/licences to implement. I've gotten the OpenLAB Chemstation working just fine, but I have a GCMS that also requieres Chemstation MSD. It's working fine on the old XP computer (ancient hardware that needs to be replaced/updated) but I'm having some difficulty getting it to work on my new Win7 box.

I dont know if my problem is Windows 7 or my general incompetence. I'm hoping it's the latter because I'm very capable of learning, but reengineering the OS is a bit beyond me.

I have searched through the documentation provided by Agilent and cannot find anything on how to set up the software to communicate with my equipment. I'll be happy to explain the steps I've taken so far, but it's late in the day and I'm running out the door.

I'll check in tomorrow and update the post with more info. Any off-the-cuff thoughts would be appreciated nonetheless.

You have to upgrde to the E-series for W7 (E02 or later)

What model MS do you have? I have had some trouble with older 5973 instruments when upgrading to E version of software. The newer software uses the BootP as a service instead of a stand alone program and for some reason it just will not send the IP address to the MS. For those I have an XP computer on the network with the instruments just to feed them IP addresses. If your MS can have the IP manually entered then you should be ok, if not you may also need to upgrade the controller board to avoid needing the old style BootP running.

I hope you don't have GPIB communications or you are out of luck. D version is the last one to support it and only operates on XP.

I actually got Agilent to send me the correct version and everything is mostly working now. I have a weird glitch in that my sequence tables wont hold onto sample qty, internal std qty, and density information, but we can reprocess the runs after the fact and put that info in.

We arent using GPIB on that GC/MS fortunately. It has a manually configured IP address and everything works great. I actually have been having problems with the BootP that comes with the latest OpenLAB Chemstation on another GC, but I got the newer JetDirect card that can hold an IP address in non-volatile memory so for now I'm good there also.

We did need to flash the bios on the MS (it IS a 5973) because it was too old to be compatible with the E version of software.

G1701E can definately be buggy. The plant GC/MS a 6890-5973 needs to be pumped down from the instrument pannel because chemstation things the foreline pressure is in Torr rather than mTorr reported by the instrument.

My 5975b the hi-vac sensor will not turn on automatically if the pump down is initiated from Chemstation.
