FID - acetonitrile

Hi All,
Has anyone had problems using acetonitrile with a FID.
Does it cause any long term corrosion?

I conclude that from the lack of replies from viewings that corrosion from using
acetonitrile is not a problem....

should be no problem. I've heard it hypothesized MeCl2 and other chlorinated solvents could form HCl gas in the FID from the hydrogen and high heat but I've never had an issue.

Hi,
As a producer of Aceto we analyse product and stream samples daily.
There is no degradation of FID systems at all.

Thanks for the information.
I had heard also that dichloromethane might not be good for FIDs.
I never had a problem when I did use it a long,long time back.
Luckily it has been succeeded by other sample preparation techniques now !

Methylene chloride as a great solvent for GC-FID work. It doesn't burn well in the flame so when you inject, you have less of a solvent peak for CH2Cl2. Ultimately you have a larger time window for your chromatogram. I use this solvent a lot and have never seen problems with/in my flame detectors.
