Influence temperature on results

Hello everyone.

Last friday I started a sequence on an LC-MS system. The sequence was measured during the weekend.
Somewhere during the weekend the airco in the room broke down and the temperature in the room increased a lot. When I entered the room today the temperature was well above 30 degrees celsius, probably even above 35 degrees celsius.
I have no idea how much the increase in temperatue has influenced my LC-MS runs.
Does anyone has experience with this.

A lot depends on your equipment and application. In general I'd expect shorter retention times on your LC (unless your column is placed in a column-oven at, say, 40°C. Also, your mass calibration might be off... You should try to find out when the room temperature started to increase, your LC-MS might keep a log of the room temperature.

We have a new air conditioning here in our lab, and I am sure it does influence our LC/MS. Not only the mass calibration, but also the ion ratio produced in MS/MS methods changed noticeable. It is really important to keep room temperature stable.
