How do I do this?
I have an Agilent 1260 Infinity system connected to the pc at Local Area Connection IPv4: 192.168.254.10
In Lab Advisor I choose "Manually Add Instrument" - (Instrument Type: Agilent LC) - (Instrument Address: 192.168.254.10) and press "Add Instrument"
Now Lab Advisor will just say Attemting to contact... but will never make contact with the LC system.
It is like the lc system dosen't send any information back to the computer.
Lab Advisor Version: B.1.03.09196.1902

Ping that IP address. It may be the case that firewall blocks packets.

Ping is ok. Fine response from 192.168.254.10
Windows firewall state: Off
Chemstation has no problem connecting and operating the system.
Chemstation: B.04.03

Problem solved.
Local Area Connection IPv4 is 192.168.254.10, but the instrument is located at 192.168.254.11.
I much prefer USB connections.

Do you have enough Lab Advisor licenses? Each module is considered one license. And are you entering the serial number of each module?

I'm using the basic version which don't need licenses. Of cause I can't use some of the traceability/user assignment, data-sharing/data-reviewing, enhanced early maintenance feedback (EMF) setup, and extended instrument control. I only want to run the tests and the basic maintenance.
That said I do have a license, but two systems.

I believe that the basic version has 10 licenses (modules). When we had that version only, we had to remove some then add others, a hassle.

When I enter the license key we have I'm allowed 10 modules.
System 1 has 5 modules and system 2 has 4, so we are good.

Hi Rhodium
I can't. The forum don't allow personal messages (To enhance debate I think) and I don't have your e-mail adresse.
Just write it here or start a new toppic. Then you will also get advise from people far more experiened with the Agilent GCs than I.

Hello Forse,
the IP of the Instrument Agilent 1260 (LAN-Caed) and the LAN-Card in the control PC have to differ!
I would change the IP of the PC LAN-Card (is it Win XP / Win 7) to:
192.168.254.1 (TCP/IP Properrties of the Instrument LAN Card in the PC)
And leave the Agilent 1260 IP at
192.168.254.10.... and it will work

.
SM (Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 on PC and HPLC)
GW (Gateway: is in this case not important, leave it empty or 0.0.0.0.0
One other question:
Do you connect directly from PC to Infinity? In this (special case you need a "Crossover" LAN cable)
Or do you use a switch or hub? (You use "normal" LAN cable)
Best regards & and please ask if you got any further question

Hi Wombat
Thanks for your reply, but as you can see from the dates on some of the previus posts the problem was solved more than a year ago.
Best regards

Some newer LC modules even have USB Ports now.
You can use a Mini USB-Cable to connect your PC to the Instrument, if you are connected to the internet, you pc will automatically download the driver from Windows Update.
Later on you just need to click "Fast Connect" in the lower left corner in Lab Advisor and you are connected to your instrument.
Only the latest Lab Advisor (B.02.07) works with USB connections:
