5890 cannot bring up GC

My 5890 w/ECD is driving me to the brink. I was doing some maintenance (including a column trim) the other day, and couldn't seem to get a good seal after replacing the nut - well, I eventually torqued down a bit too hard and found myself with a FAULT: INJA TEMP RDG notification on the front. Eventually, I realized I had pinched the thermocouple wire, and after several hours of work, was able to get a new temp control assembly put in, and had a nice clean start-up with no faults or leaks. I should mention that I had to replace a fuse after seeing a Line fault, and used a 4A fuse rather than the 5A that was there. After giving myself a pat on the back and a few hours of conditioning, I started up Chemstation to find a "Cannot bring up Injector" error followed by a "Cannot bring up GC" error.

Rather than finding the nearest bridge, I've opted to seek help here. It's GPIB, and the pci card on the computer is definitely working, as it's got another working GC piggy-backed onto it. I traded the GPIB cables between the two instruments, and it's not the cable. I removed the back panel and found the GPIB interface card seems to be plugged in as it should be. The HP-IB address is set correctly. The ribbon going to the communication board isn't cinched or nicked, and none of the boards have any obvious problems. Can anybody help me track down the problem? I'm pretty sure it's inside the GC, and not a software issue, but that's about all I know at this point. Please please and thank you.
If you have access to the service menu of the GC itself try to cancel any error present in its memory.
Have you shut down computer and all of both GCs, and then started up?

I can't believe that the Agilent Confiuration Editor settings or License numbers have been corrupted/changed.
