HPLC of petroleum hydrocarbons

hello,
I am working on a project related to the petroleum sludge. in one step of project i should characterize the petroleum hydrocarbon using HPLC. my question: which column is suitable for separation of components of crude petroleum? i use Agilent 1100 HPLC device.

If GC is not available my first idea is Normal Phase column. Please check out Restek's website, LC chromatograms and search for hydrocarbon. You will get several applications on Reversed phase columns. I'm sure you will find a good starting point there.

We've done aromatics in mineral spirits by reverse-phase HPLC.

My guess is that a combination of GC and HPLC techniques may be needed. Do you have GCMS?
