Hi! We have an Ailent Technologies 5975B inert MSD connected to Agilent 6890 Network GC System. Upon, boot up, a message would appear: "No response, cannot bring MS on line(possible bad address or existing lock [error 204]". I think it has something to do with the communication (probably) of the software and the gc system. Any thoughts on this? Thanks!

Your computer is not talking to your mass spec. Reboot the mass spec and see if it will communicate. You shouldn't have to vent.
If that doesn't work you may have a board problem. I have a 5973 that has done this twice, the second time it required a smart card replacement.

Have the bootp program open so that you can watch and see if the MSD IP comes up.

You may also want to re boot your ethernet switch.

Thank you very much for your replies.
We reboot the MS without venting and everything got back to normal again.
Cheers!

I have the same problem, but I can not open ChemStation. We check the network cables, communication between the ms and gc with the computer. Try to repair the software, then reinstall the software and still does not open the program. Help please.

Hi Laura!
What do you mean when you say you can not open the ChemStation?

You can turn the MS off for a second or two without venting. just hit the power switch. wait a few seconds and turn it back on. What do you think happens in a brown out?
If you have a 5975 and a 6890N there should be no need for BootP. That was for older instruments with jetdirect cards. The 5975 and 6890N are full network capable instruments.

I just had the same error message on my GC-MS this morning. After re-booting the Ethernet switch, it went normal again.
