I hope this is an easy question for some here. I have a manufacturing QC site that has an Agilent 1100 system and uses a game-boy type controller. So the question is: do ALL Agilent 1100 modules have built-in GPIB ?

Because we have unused licensed copies of Chemstation and GPIB boards/cables here and could readily move them to ChemStation if the modules already contain those. Their 1100 modules are quaternary pump, column compartment, autosampler, degasser, and VWD.

The degasser don't have GPIB, the rest have.

But - why would you use GPIB when you can use LAN?

As far as I know you only need to connect one modul per GPIB to the PC. (Normally it's the detector.)

The rest of the modules are connected via CAN.

The 1100 LC had GPIB built in, with a slot to plug in a LAN card. The LAN is much faster, but make sure you don't plug a LAN cable into the CAN bus connectors as they both used the same connector type.

The GPIB also requires the Agilent I/O Libraries be install and configured.

Ask them to shoot and send you good digital photos of the rear of the modules.
