PerkinElmer does not support installing TotalChrom on a virtual server but as many corporations are moving to a “Virtual Only” platform has anyone successfully virtualized a TCCS system?

I believe a company I used to work for did this.

There were no issues resulting from a virtual install of TCCS.

There were massive issues with TCCS. Server needed to be restarted weekly due to numerous pen.exe errors, TCCS would not allow users to login, TCCS would randomly lose communication with link boxes, etc...

Additionally, TCCS will no longer be supported by PE I don't think...

Thank you for your reply Shaun.

Good to know that TCCS has been installed in a virtual environment.

You mentioned - “There were massive issues with TCCS. Server needed to be restarted weekly due to numerous pen.exe errors, TCCS would not allow users to login, TCCS would randomly lose communication with link boxes, etc...”

Were the errors experienced after TCCS was virtualized?

No, these problems were experienced both before and after TCCS was virtualized.

My honest opinion on TCCS is this: PE had TurboChrom in a workstation environment and it worked very well. Somewhere in there legal naming issues forced the name change from Turbo to TotalChrom ... no big deal. Sometime after PE realized that people really wanted to move towards Client/Server applications and they thought I bet we could make TotalChrom into this.

So, they tried... and they created a lot of problems along the way because the software was never intended to run in a client/server environment. Their C/S implementation was patchwork and it shows...

Thanks for the clarification.

I’m glad to know that pre and post virtualize differences were not experienced.

Luckily our system has been fairly robust using four servers (license, application and 2 Citrix for web based access).

We are retiring TCCS in the 1st quarter of 2015 but "they" will not wait that long to move the system to vBlock.

Thanks again for your replies and input
