Hi,
I have just deleted a load of log files from the Totalchrom directory in which they are stored. I had many 100's stored from
quite a few years work. I have kept the ones that pre-date installation and also those from the last year. Boy it seems to
have speeded up the PC.

There's a temp directory next to that logfile directory. You can delete the old files there too.

Don't forget the recycle bin and defrag.

cheers

Thank Peter D - have you ever deleted the files in PE temp directory starting with pen-(then date stamp) ?
What types have you deleted before?
I'm having slow accessing / saving data in certain applications within Totalchrom
I'd like to eliminate all housekeeping issues prior to other routes.

Yes, I have deleted those old pen files with no problems, if the files are in use Totalchrom will lock them from being edited or deleted.

If you cleared all those directories and defragged there isn't much else you can do. How old is the computer? How full is the hard drive?

One of my Totalchrom computers has been running for 10 years now, collecting data 24/7. I have to backup and delete the raw data every few months.

Thanks Peter_D ,
I have defragged and that seemed to improve it nicely too.
I will delete those pen files tomorrow.
The PC is 7 years old and I transfer the data monthly to a connected company network drive.
The company Mcafee I think causes some conflicts since we now run W7 and the TotalChrom PC is XP Pro and I
think that doesn't help. It is constantly running in the background and updating -all so we can copy data to network.
If only I could have bypassed IT and used portable drive on installation !

Yes, on one PC I changed the antivirus that IT had installed and it made a big difference. That was on XP Pro with 512MB of RAM.
Installing more memory is another option, if you can still find some for a 7 year old PC.

I also keep any software that's not part of the chromatography system off the PC.

cheers

Peter
Hi,
Gone with a new PC and latest software - but no longer connected to the network.
No extra programs added.
Best Regards
WK
