Chemstation B.03.01 SR 1.1 Issue

Dear Friends,

I have installed Chemstation B.03.01 with patch SR 1 on my Win 7 32 bit machine.

The 1315B Detector has jet card which is some how configured to a fixed IP (192.0.0.192). I have configured the Bootp with the MAC from the Jetcard and its IP, gateway: default.

I have updated the Firmware (both Resident and Main) on the 1315B to A.6.10 (the files come with the SR patch).

When I startup ChemStation, it shows a number of components that is initialises. My CS tends to get stuck at the point where it says: " Instrument Initializing".

Some times I also a gessage like " Sever CAD has stopped working ".

I have tried every kind of variation to the BOOTP and the TCP/IP on my computer, however nothing seems to be working. I have also read the many confusing manuals that Agilent has put out, still no help.

Could some one kindly give me a hint as to what I may be doing wrong ?

I assume that compatibility between Firmware A.6.10 (on the Detector) and the Chemstation Version is not an issue, as I checked the compatibility matrix.

Thanks and Many Regards

SG

Hi SG,

We had lots of issues with some chemstation setups and windows 7 so hopefully this may help

Not certain how computer savvy you are; I can provide more details if needed.

First thing to try
Can you ping the IP of the card from the command line of windows successfully
- type CMD in the run box of windows and then ping 192.0.0.192 once you get the command prompt
You should see some info about how long it takes for the ping to travel to the card and back from the pc

If you don't get a successful ping, then there is a problem with communications
It could be with Bootp not being able to pass the IP address required to the external jet direct card - we had this problem a lot. For some reason Windows 7 was blocking Bootp communications using its firewall even though we told it not to.

Let me know what you get with the ping and I can hopefully guide you more from there
Kevin

Hello,

which version of bootp do you use?

I had this (?) problem too with the newer versions of bootp and xp.

With an older version it worked without problems.

Because of the trouble I'm using the "CAG Bootpwin Application Version 1.2" from Chemstation A.10.02.

You could try to install that and if it runs on win 7, I would recommend that version.

Then you have an extra window, where you can see instantly if your detector is connected or not.

Thanks to both of you fir your help. The detector was pining, however now connecting to the CS:

Yes the older bootp did the trick and all modules are responding now !

However I still have an issue with the FW. The Setup guide says that a minimum of FW Upgrade to A.6.10 is needed. The SR.1.1 also comes with the FW in the Zip. However when I try to upgrage the FW, all the modules go into RM and start blinking. I tried upgrading one module at a time, or even the Resident Program first for a module and then the MP, however still it does not seem to work.

I have a 1312, 1313 and a 1314 in the 1100 stack. Finally I had to settle for a FW level of A.5.11 which seems so work fine for the CS. I am wondering weather an upgrade to the FW A.6.10 is absolutely necessary to get top peformance ?

Thanks

SG
