i.p. addresses

Hello all,
I am new to your forum and have been reading a bit on the boards.
I am having some trouble even before a run begins and also during runs. There has been communication troubles between the instrument and computer during startup. Where I've had to restart the computer for 3-4 times to establish connections with all instruments. The problem is I am missing an i.p.-address to be able to ping one instrument.
So my question is:

How does one find the i.p. adress for an instrument? I am using Waters Acquity H-Class and a Waters W2465 electrochemical detector. I know how to find the i.p. address for everything but the W2465, how would I do this?

Are you sure your detector is connected to your computer by means of a network cable? If it's any other kind of cable it's perfectly normal that the detector doesn't have an ip-adrss.

Ha! You are completely right - I do not know much of computers and connections. But now I just learned something, thank you!
I just saw a cable running from the instrument to the computer and figured there should be an i.p. adress...
So, this was easy to solve

I guess this means I cannot see if this instrument gets connected or not?

You could check the DHCP server (located somewhere under the Empower map) to find the IP address.

I used it to find the i.p. addresses for the other instruments. The problem was that the W2465 is not there, because the detector is not connected with a network cable just like LivD pointed out.

I still don't know how to check if it's communicating with the computer, but I guess as long as I get results I don't have to worry
