Agilent GCMS or GC tandem MS

We are considering replacement of an existing Agilent 6890N/5973Network GCMS. We built an in-house library on the platform and need to transfer the library (in SCAN mode) to the new Agilent GCMS or tandem MS. We target at the latest model of GCMS/MS if the library can be transferred and re-used.

If not, we would target at GCMS (still don't know if the library can be transferred). In addition, I heard that the pump that comes with Agilent instrument is not as good as that supplied before. Any comments?

The roughing pumps supplied with the newer Agilent 5975s are prone to damage. I routinely have issues with them siezing up and eventually burning out the board that provides the power outlet for them. I have taken to plugging the pump into a separate power outlet to avoid this damage. Note - this solution risks backflow from the pump if the power fails, so I try to be sure it is on the same circuit as the MS.

The library issue may be as simple as pointing the new instrument to the old library. We do this routinely, but we have not radically changed our data systems.

We have 4 5973 and 1 5975 that I have converted to use Edwards E2M2 pumps because the smaller pumps failed within a few years(well some about 7 years but that is a short time to me). We still have one 5975 running on the original small pump that came with it. Most of the big Edwards pumps we are using are at least 15-20 years old and have never had anything done to them except oil changes. The smaller ones seem to run much hotter(probably the higher RPMs) and not last as long. Plus the larger ones are not as noisy overall.

I don't know enough about the Mass Hunter software to know if the old libraries will work on that, but any version of MSDChemstation should read your in house generated libraries. I would guess that if the format is similar to the NIST library and Mass Hunter will read the same files as MSDChemstation then it would work. You just need to confirm with Agilent.

Mass Hunter read two kind of libraries: .L & .xml
If your job is quantitation only take ms/ms if not don't go for it.

There is no screener in the MassHunter software. In addition, the file run by MassHunter in GC tandem MS cannot be opened by Chemstation. Therefore, it seems that qualitative drug identification by screener library matching is not feasible in GC tandem MS.

The sales representative said that the pump used is from Varian and is perfectly ok.

Hi!
I have change all my pump Edwards 1.5 and Pfiffer Duo2.5 on my 5973 and 5975...i have 8 instruments....pump are noisy and no perform.
I have change for Agilent (Varian) DS102 pump...less noisy, better vacuum...i'm very satisfy...only, i can't connect electric plug directly on my msd but i prefer that.
