Hello,

First time dealing with derivatisation of organotin compounds and have a question:

Is it safe to dissolve sodium tetraethylborate in water like in ISO 17353? MSDS says, it is flammable in contact with water.

Thank You for Your answers!
Hi, we have always dissolved sodium tetraethylborate in methanol but not water.
You can dissolve tetraethyl borate in water, it dissolves immediately and it is not flammable in contact with water. In order to stabilize the solution you should use 0.1N NaOH instead of water. I usually dissolve 1 g of tetraethyl borate in 50 ml of 0.1N NaOH and then I fill several small amber vials which I store in the freezer.
