I'll claim "administrative privilege" here to announce our last "live on the web" course of the year.

If you're an experienced chromatographer, you probably don't need this course. If you have to deal with supervisors, auditors, reviewers, or new hires who aren't experienced chromatographers, then they need this course!

The course is just what the name implies: a thorough overview of the fundamentals of HPLC: how it works, key definitions and terms, and the basics of HPLC equipment and columns. The course is taught in three 2.5-hour sessions (December 9, 11, and 13, 2013) starting at 8:00 am (Pacific Time).

Here's what we'll cover:

Section 1. Overview
  • What is HPLC?
    A brief history of HPLC
    From Apparatus to Instrument
Section 2. Instrumentation
  • Pumps & Degassing
    Injectors & Autosamplers
    Connecting Tubing & Fittings
    Column Hardware
    Detectors
Section 3. Measurements & Parameters
  • Retention
    Selectivity
    Efficiency
    Resolution
    Tailing & Asymmetry
Section 4. It's all about chemistry
  • Reversed-phase
    pH & Ion-pair
    Normal-phase & HILIC
    Ion exchange
    Size Exclusion
    What Can Go Wrong?
    Gradients
Section 5. Quantitation
  • Integration
    Calibration
Sessions are recorded, so you can review (or catch a missed session). Slides are presented via the internet, with two-way audio via telephone. This is not a "canned" webinar, but a fully interactive, live course.

And now, back to our regular programming!
