Cone voltage on Quattro Ultima Pt

Hello everyone
We have a new (used) Quattro Ultima Pt in our lab for some months now, and I wonder why in ESI the smallest cone voltage I can apply is 35 V. I see very often spectra from clients which were recorded on other machines with cone voltages as low as 5 V; our Thermo MSQ also supports cone voltages down to 1 V. Is there a special reason for this or am I missing something?
Thanks a lot
Jörg

Is 35 V on the cone the lowest value that will give (good) spectra or is it the lowest value that the software will accept ?
As noted in another post, because of design differences you cannot expect instruments from different mfrs. to have the same operating parameters (nor to generate identical spectra).

Due to a patent restriction in the US, Quattro Ultimas had a cone voltage minimum restriction of 35V. I believe that the patent infringement is no longer an issue and if you require a cone voltage less than 35V please message me with your email address and I will send the software edits

Thank you for this detail! One question before: I have installed MassLynx in full security mode, I am working in a regulated environment. Can I apply the software edit without "corrupting" the system?

The edits require changing some files that are loaded onto the EPC as well changing a registry setting to allow the method editor to use the lower settings. I don't believe these will affect the MassLynx check sums but you will need to verify with your regulatory department if they will allow the changes

@jbeadnell
At the moment I have one analyte giving very good signal on my THermo MSQ with 5V cone, but vey bad signal on the Ultima Pt with 35V. I also see on the MSQ decrease of the signal with voltages > 10V, so I guess it is about the time to try out the "hack". I had concerns but I aked our QAU and they said, as long as it is documented, I can patch the system. Could you please send me the instructions at joerg_dot_johannes_at_laus_dot_de?
Thank you very much in advance,
Jörg
