Dear members of this forum,
I want to buy cartridges of LichroCART (125 mm length) from Merck and I always I work with Lichrospher RP-18 from Agilent and I have the cartridge column holder and a guard column from the same company (Agilent).
I would like to know if these accesories I have are or not compatible with the cartridge from Merk. I do not know and I need your opinions.
Thanks in advance for your help,
Diego Delmonte

even they were compatible, which they are not, you should not use a guard column which as a different packing then that of your column, even if they are supposed to be equivalent.
always use the same packing for both column and guard column from the same manufacturer.

I use these columns. Agilent is merely marketing the Merck columns. They don't make them. The first one I bought came in a German Merck box with an Agilent label slapped on it. If you can buy the Lichrocart columns elsewhere, then I suggest you go for it.

LiChrospher is from Merck.
I doubt that the merck cartidge system is compatible with anything else, except you have this type of guard column holder with capillary type connectors.

Tequilla i must apologise for not thouroughly reading your post.
indeed the lichrocart name is related to Merck.
if your stationanry phase is of the same type then you can use the same column guards for all colunms from merck.
the difference is in the connection parts of the columns.
the cartridge concept requires you to buy an holder as well in order to connect your column to the HPLC. The holder can accomodate inside of it the column guard.
in contrast with the hibar you do not need a holder. the column is ready to use and to connect the HPLC. in case you want to use a guard column you need to change the first connector to one that can accomodate the column guard in it.
normally 3 lichrocart cartridge columns and holders are cheaper then the 3 hibars especially if you need to use guard columns
hope this helps

Dear members of this forum,
Thanks for all but mainly I would like to know if the cartridge column holders (reference: 5021-1846) and a guard columns 4 x 4 mm (5 mm) with reference 79925OD-504 from Agilent are compatibles with the accesorioes LiChroCART 4-4 HPLC guard cartridge and manu-CART NT endfittings from Merck.
My question is owing to the conections in HPLC must be exactly and tightly and not have the problem of leakage.
Thanks in advance for your valuable help,

Agilent doesn't make the Lichrosphere or Lichrocart columns, cartridge holders, or guard columns. These are made by Merck in Germany. Agilent and Merck parts will be completely interchangeable, since they are all Merck manufactured.
