Communication between Agilent LC & Waters ESATIN module

I would like to connect a third party detector to an Agilent HPLC and collect the data using Empower 2. We are using Empower 2 and the Waters ESATIN module to collect the data and send it to the LACE. The Waters systems have I/O signal connectors that tell the ESATIN module when the injection starts. How does the Agilent (1100 or higher) system send the signal to the ESATIN module to tell it when to start collecting data. I have tried contacting Agilent, initially it seems they don't know. Surely there must be someone that has tried this.

Thanks

John

It's been a while since I played with 1100's, but if memory serves, there's is an option for a 'remote' output (possibly on the autosampler) that provides a 9 pin connector that gives start/stop/ready signals that you could use for this. You used to be able to download the 1100 instruction manuals, which were pretty comprehensive.

Paul.

Yes, I have kind of gotten that far. Your memory is correct. There is a pin diagram in the autosampler manual with the functions for several slots on the 9 pin remote output. There is just one thing I am not sure about. The remote output only has one pin labled as injection start but the ESATIN module has two injection start input terminals, a positive and a negative slot. How should I connect to that (going from one output to both a positive and a negative input)?

Thanks

John

Connect the digital ground wire (pin 1) to the start - and the start wire (pin 3) to the start +. I have an ESA Coulochem detector currently attached to an Agilent 1200 this way. It works fine.

Great. thanks. We have been giving a solution to send the start stop signal from the Agilent system to the ESATIN module with a contact closure board. It certainly seems easier to use the remote output cable and not have to buy and install this board.

One last issue that I am sure you must have grappled with is how to control the system through Empower 2. The Empower software will only see the HPLC without the ESATIN. Do you have to run this as two separate systems in Empower, one for the system and one for the ESATIN module?
