Micromass Quattro EPC replacement

Does anyone know if the extremely expensive Embedded PC in a Micromass Quattro MS, which seems to be just a standard ATX motherboard with a Compact flash socket, can be replaced with a very cheap standard motherboard + Compact flash adapter?

You can not replace this board with anything but exact same model. The reason is that they use real time operating system called VxWorks I recall. It appears to access all hardware directly without system drivers. Hence even slight difference will matter.
What are the symptoms?
