analysis of NH3

I run analysis of NH3 at 10ppm using HayesepD and PDHID VICI and can't see the NH3 peak. I can see 10ppm CO2 and 10 ppm water without problem and I assume NH3 should elute between CO2 and water.

Can someone help on this.

Danny

That sure makes assaying more challenging!

Can someone help on this.
Inject NH3 concentration like 50 times higher or so, see where the peak elutes. Start there.
Do I need to have the PDHID heated and injector heated or not?

I tried 100Celcius for injector and detector and column and no peak at 10ppm. But I can get nice CO2 and H2O peak at 10ppm.
What kind of column are you using (the tubing)?

SS ?

Glass ?

fused silica ?

I tried with packed SS Hayesep D with Siltek tubing.

I tried with MTX capillary 30meter Q Bond with siltek tubing.

It seems to me that the column adsorb the NH3??
Any silicate glass or fused silica will absorb the ammonia.

I tried with packed Hayesep D and capillary MTX Pora Bond Q and can't see any peak. Usually the NH3 should comes out between CO2 and H2O peak.
Usually unless the porous polymer is contaminated with starting monomers it does not absorb, react with the ammonia.

Silica of glass or silica of FSOT will react with the ammonia in large amounts.

best wishes,

Rod
Dear Danny,
If you have the PFPD Detector then please run on nitrogen mode and definately you will get the so much response of 1ppm nitrogen that you can quantify .
