Hi!

I'm looking to do some environmental gases analysis, and I keep running across the terms "permanent gas" and "fixed gas," but I haven't seen a definition for them that makes sense. Are they just gas streams in your lab that are constant? Are they the most common environmental gases? If so, why do they always contain CO and hydrocarbons? Also, I see a lot of chromatograms but no quantitation of what was injected or detected. I presume this is caused by the assumption that I know what a "permanent gas" is. I don't. Please share.

I always thought a perminent gas is an element or compound that at the temperatures and pressures we live in will always be a gas. e.g. Oxygen. Nitrogen , Carbon Dioxide are all perminent gases. Not sure what a fixed gas is though
