Dear All.

I am newbie in this area.

I have a porapak Q 80/100 chromosob packing. the column was not use for several if years (according to my senior it has been kept in a box for about 10 years). They also did not know the condition of the column since the column was purchase from second buyer (may be I am the 2nd or 3rd user).

I have inject ethanol through it with the program setting as below:
Injection temp: 150, detector: 200 and oven: 120
attenuation:16
N2 flow rate: 30ml/min
Ethanol peak may be expected at RT: 1.5

Unluckily, no pear appear

By the way, I am using PE autosytem with FID

Can someone share on the basic test using this column?
(specified the setting and condition)

Hope to hear some feedback.

Thanks
Sofia

First, confirm you have flow through the column. If it is a 2.1mm ID column set your carrier flow at 30cc/min If 4mm, at 60cc/min.

Then set the temperature of the oven at 180C and the injector and detector at 200C.

Inject methanol ethanol isopropanol in an aqueous solution of 10mg/mL. Inject 1 microliter of solution.

You should have 3 clearly separated peaks with little tailing (tf < 1.3)

You can also add acetone to the solution if you wish.

best wishes,

Rod

Dear Sofia,

Any news about your issue. Is chromatrographer1 idea worked?

Thanks,
