I need to replace my Smart Card II (part # 05990-60406) on my HP/Agilent 5971 mass spec. I've been searching online (sis, gentech, caltech, ebay, etc) but not finding anything. Does anyone out there have one (in good working condition) that they would like to sell?? Thanks!!

You may have already checked this, but just in case you didn't...make sure the 5volt supply is working on the MS. You can measure it with a multimeter on the mother board. If that is bad, it will appear as if the Smart Card is bad, but it's the mother board that needs replacement. Good luck and let us know what you find.

Does the 5972A also contain this? I've got an unused 5972A.

Yes, the 5972A has a Smart Card II.

Also forgot to mention to check your GPIB cable connections and make sure they're tight. The cable to the MS could be bad so it's worth ruling that out before purchasing a new Smart Card II.I need to replace my Smart Card II (part # 05990-60406) on my HP/Agilent 5971 mass spec. You can try Alpha omega in Briel ( sp) NJ. They may have been affected by Sandy.

RESOLUTION : I got a Smart Card from wntechnical.com. Quick and easy transaction. I replaced the card and unfortunately it didn't work. After crying for a moment and reading posts/manuals/etc I realized that I didn't set the new card's HPIB address to the correct setting. Ta dah!!!! Works Now!!!

Glad you got it working.
I am trying to remember if there was also a Smart Card III that would work on the 71/72. Seems we had one in our 5970 when we upgraded it to run on Windows and when we got rid of it I swapped it out into our 71 to get better compatibility, but maybe it was the SCII. Was too long ago.
