Formic Acid is what is most commonly used for an acid modifier as it is also volatile. Acetic Acid can be used also. Mineral acids such as HCl and HNO3 would be very corrosive to the metal parts in the MS I would think.I know when the acidic modifier is needed in the mobile phase for LC-MS analysis, the acidic modifier has to be volatile. Since pure HCl is gas at room temperature, can I use hydrochloric acid in the mobile phase for the LC-MS analysis? Thank you.
