Hi all does anyone here use Phenyltrimethylammonium hydroxide as a derivitization reagent. I am looking to do inosine monophosphate and Guanosine monophosphate via GC (disodium inosinate and disodium guanylate are important flavor enhancers). I am currenty running some tests using BSTFA and my 5890-FID when I came accorss an article about TMAH TMPAH derivitization. Aparently you just combine it with the sample, set your GC injector for 300 and inject it and the derivitization happens in the injector.

From what I can tell itis most often used with barbiturates, one uses a .1N solution in methanol and it is not water sensitive which is an added bonus as I can directly add my aqueous sample to it (my samples need warm water to break the starch encapsulation) So I can take like 20 ul of sample and 180ul of reagent and put it in a microinsert or it is also frequently reported to just draw 1ul of reagent and 1ul of sample and coinject them. Can a 7673ALS be setup to do this?

BTW It's often called flash methylation in the literature.
