I recently installed a new version of ChemStation (Version E.02.00.493) and both the GC and MSD were able to communicate with the software upon rebooting the computer and opening ChemStation. However, we were having an issue with the EPC (another post is coming for that... ) and when we power cycled the GC, the MSD could no longer find the IP address for it. We then power cycled the MSD and it could no longer find the IP address for itself until we punched it in by hand on the MSD keypad. I've restarted the computer, chemstation, the GC and MSD multiple times, switched out cables and the switch and the GC still has no IP address (luckily the IP address for the MSD is recognized, only bc it was saved from the keypad. If it had to look for it itself, I doubt it would find it.) Any idea as to what's going on?!? Thanks for your time.

I find restarting the router after everything else has booted up (but before starting the data system) clears this up sometimes.

What version of GC and MSD do you have. The earlier 6890A which were upgraded with a LAN needed the bootp server to work.

I'm running an HP5973/6890+. I was reading about the Bootp server and how it needed it to ping the GC from the MSD. How would I make sure that this server was installed and running? Thanks again.

The boot server should be in a folder on the CD disc.
Initially check the pc , it may be installed. Usually it is in the start folder and starts on a reboot.

When you run cmd, start excute and enter cmd (or ask an IT guy), you can ping the MS. Bootp should be installed when you first install the chemstation software. If you do that properly.

Did you configured the instrument correct? Did you gave different Ip adresses to the MS and GC?

If everything is done in a correct manner the only thing you can do is the following. It looks odd but it truly works.

Disconnect the network cable, because you have an IP-conflict somewhere. Even if IT says it is not possible do it. It works. After the system is started you can connect the cable again for the network. After that the problems are over.

I had to use this several times and it really works. I don't know why or how. I'm quite good with computers and networks ut fr this????
