Hi All!

I'm new to GC, so I don't know if the following is a ridiculous request or not. I apologize in advance if so. Anyway, my lab wants the capability to monitor headspace gases from soil, including CO2, CH4, N2, N2O, and H2 at a minimum. We have a some GCs with FID, ECD, and NPD detectors. We also have an EI GC/MS and some HPLCs (UV, PDA). My question is, does anyone know of a method to analyze all of these things using any of the detectors I've listed? If not, do you have a method using any other detector/column? If you'd like to contact me directly with a shameless sales pitch, feel free: jholt at uiuc dot edu. More importantly, if anybody's analyzing these chemicals I'd love to hear from them.

thanks in advance!

Jon

None of your instrument is an option for the compounds listed. The only thing I can think of is GC-TCD with packed column.

That's what I feared. I am looking at some PLOT and FSOT capillary columns and hopefully will find something. With all the great capillary technology out there, it seems like a shame to work with packed columns. I'll reply if something works out.
Hi, well if I undestand your request... may be for me its depends at waht limits of quantitation will be quantite these compounds.Sure with GC/Ms in a specific conditions its possible.
If you want, i send you a GC/Ms conditions via E-mail.
But anyway for me its possible to do this analysis.A long time ago I did it in an enviromental lab in UK and run suitable.

Regards!!!
