Varian GC-3800

Discussions about GC and other "gas phase" separation techniques.

Hi everyone

I have a Varian 3800 GC. I set the column flow at 1 ml/min and split ratio at 10 without septum purge, but the software shows a total flow of 24 ml/min ! In other split ration also there is a constant excess flow (~ 13 ml/min).
Surprisingly when the split ratio is set to zero, total flow remains at 21ml/min.

Is there any other flow adjustment in the software? Is this problem related to "gas saver", if so, how should I adjust "gas saver" ?

Thanks a lot.
Your first step needs to be to measure the actual flow out of the split vent, using a flow meter that is independent of the GC flow control - you cannot troubleshoot a system using that system's measurements.

Check that you have the correct column dimensions entered, and the correct carrier gas selected.
